- mroldnewbie: There are different species of bluefin tuna. The Pacific bluefin is not the same as the Atlantic bluefin. The Atlantic bluefin is significantly bigger, and the biggest tuna ever was an Atlantic bluefin. This is the Pacific bluefin record, and it's on the IGFA page. This fish IS the world record (until another, bigger is caught). It's old news, it was caught last year.
